Mr. Ziaul Hasan joined NDC on 6 July 2021 as Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Technology. Prior to joining the Ministry, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change from 9 January 2020 to 6 July 2021. Prior to this, he was also the Chairman of Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization 'Sparso'.
Mr. Ziaul Hasan is a 1986 batch officer of NDC Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Cadre. He started his career in Gopalganj Collectorate in December 1989 as Assistant Commissioner. He later held various important posts. Notable posts are: Assistant Commissioner (Finance), Assistant Commissioner (Land), Upazila Executive Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer of District Council, Secretary of Bangladesh Silk Development Board. He has also served as Director of the National Sports Council in the capacity of Joint Secretary, General Manager of the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and a member of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) in the capacity of Additional Secretary.
Mr. Hasan was born in an aristocratic Muslim family in the village of Ramdas Dhaniram in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram district. His father Mr. Abdul Majid is a former headmaster of government primary school and his mother Johra Begum is a housewife. He was a student of Dhaka College in 1979-81. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1987 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Prior to joining the Administration Service in 1989, he was a Master of Science (MS) student in Environmental Engineering at BUET and completed 2 (two) semesters of the course. He completed his MA in Governance and Development (MAGD) course in 2014 under the sponsorship of BRAC University. He also completed National Defense Course (NDC) in 2016 from National Defense College, Mirpur, Dhaka.
He has traveled to various countries including Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Russian Federation and the United States to attend meetings, trainings, seminars, conferences and educational tours.
His wife is working as an assistant headmistress in a government high school. His eldest daughter is working as a lecturer at Rajshahi University of Engineering (RUET). Besides, one of his daughters and one of his sons are studying at university and school level.
